COLORE É LUCE - 2010/3
tecnica mista, acrilico | 70x50This new series is called “colore é luce”, i.e. colour is light. By using two detached levels of painting it creates a new way of seeing colour/form: the first level is painted on a transparent mesh. The two levels of the painting create depth by colour value as well as by focal distance. The moving eye experiences changing mixes of colour and form as one mesh-colour/form moves over an underlying one. One is tempted to ask whether Albers would have had to add an element to his try-partite concept of “surface” vs. “film” vs. “volume” colour.
The artist’s biography reflects an incubation period of several years for this totally new series of works. Instead of public appearances the artist put all her energy into the research of a mode of expression off the beaten track of Concrete/Constructivist art. Nor is this untypical of her creative development which is marked by discoveries of a visual or artistic nature that culminate in new exploits. Thus, over the 50 odd years of her intensive research we come across colour-transparency, -superposition, -juxtaposition, formal experiments with the square, the diagonal, the cube, in painting, relief, and sculpture, using materials as varied as paper, plastic, wood, and metal.
