Whereas Le Idee might still be called “abstract”, the aquarelle of the same year is clearly a Concrete work with the square as its basic grid, even though few if any of the Concrete artists went into aquarelle as a medium. Aquarelle offers itself to graded dilution and translucent layering creating differrent depths and densities.
